Homeward Bound - October 2020

Homeward Bound
October 2020

The month of October can be a spooky month - maybe even a scary month with monstrous problems. YIKES! Well - maybe not, but words like that seem to be popping up everywhere as kids and adults look forward to Halloween.

According to USA Today, adults spend more on themselves to celebrate Halloween than any other day during the year. We get that! Especially if they want to hang out with the kids to go trick-or-treating or a party of some kind. For many homeowners, and buyers, however, they are truly scared! Your Referrals Help the Kids!

When you refer someone to Kerr Team, you're helping fantastic kids like Jenna & Julie at Children's Hospital of Oklahoma. See their story below:

Jenna suffered severe symptoms just hours after birth and at one month old, was diagnosed with Hirchsprung's Disease. After three and a half years of surgeries and issues, Jenna met Dr. Letton and his team, who have managed her symptoms. When little sister, Julie, was born, Dr. Letton and his team were prepared to treat symptoms that older sister, Jenna, had faced. Tests and procedures were done and Julie is free of symptoms. Both girls are great now. Julie loves swimming and playing with her siblings. Jenna enjoys playing at the park and riding her bike. When she grows up, she dreams of becoming a ninja, a veterinarian, and a pediatric surgeon.

Please remember that your referrals help the kids!
We believe that giving back to the community is incredibly important. That's why we're on a mission to donate $25,000 to Children's Hospital Foundation. When you refer those you know who are considering a move, you can rest assured that they will receive the best service possible and that a portion of the income we receive goes towards a very worthy cause!

Spooky Season is HERE!

We hope you're enjoying this season so far!

The chill in the air has blown in - Stores have started putting out truckloads of candy - It's time to grab the best looking pumpkin and carve a face into it! We're talking about Halloween, or Spooky Season (as we've come accustomed to saying this time of year). All this has us wondering - how did it all start? Here's some fun facts about the history of Halloween!

Halloween originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. People would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the 8th century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as All Saints Day, which soon became incorporated with some of the same traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve and later, Halloween. Over time, it's evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving pumpkins, festivals, and eating treats!

Samhain marked the end of summer and the harvest - the beginning of the dark and cold winter. The Celts believed that on this night, the boundary between worlds of the living and dead became blurred and that ghosts could return to walk the earth!

Did you know?

One quarter of all the candy sold annually in the U.S. is purchased for Halloween and people, especially Millennials, are buying costumes for their pets at an increasing rate!

By the 1950's, town leaders directed Halloween towards the young due to the high baby boom. Trick-or-Treating was in need of reviving. Families tried to prevent tricks being played on them by providing the neighborhood children with small treats.

Americans borrowed from European tradition and began dressing up and going house to house asking for food or money, which eventually became our trick-or-treating.

Young women used to believe that on Halloween they could divine the name or appearance of their future husband by doing tricks with yarn, apple parings, or mirrors!
